i love this movie. my favorite quote of all time is the one from when there in the kitchen and Lanie say
"why can't things just go back to normal at the end of the half hour. Like on the Brady Bunch"
and troy says"because Mr. Brady died of aids.
I think the casting in this movie was perfect. I especially can't imangine anyone besides Ethan Hawke and Ben Stiller playing the rivals for Lanies Love. the so perfectly oppisite it's hilarious. O and the seen were Ethan and Lanie kiss after her doculmentary is ruined gets me everytime. They love each other so much that you can see the pain of wait on Troys face. sigh..

Go to it. Read it. Love it.

My friend writes in it... She's kinda like a film critic, so I thought some of you might be interested in that.

I love B-rated horror movies, especially Bela Lugosi movies. As far as today's standards of horror goes, they don't have tons of blood or anything like that, so they are more psychological. I hope this is a movie that you will all see.

Movie Title: The Raven
Category: Horror
Date of Movie: 1935

SYNOPSIS: A wealthy judge coaxes the brilliant but eccentric neurological surgeon Dr. Vollin, who also has an obsessive penchant for Edgar Allen Poe, out of retirement to save the life of his daughter, a dancer crippled and brain damaged in an auto wreck. Vollin restores her completely, but also envisions her as his "Lenore," and cooks up a scheme to kidnap the woman and torture and kill her fiance' and father in his Poe-inspired dungeon. To do his dirty work, Vollin recruits a wanted criminal, and turns him into a hideous monster to guarantee his subservience.

RECOMMENDED?: Absolutely, Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff are great together, and the movie is wonderful.

Jul. 25th, 2004 @ 10:08 pm Great idea
This is a great idea for a community. I started a weekly film club with some friends about six months ago where we watch two films every Sunday night. The choices are rotated weekly among the members, and are chosen from the IMDB Top 100-250 list and the AFI 100. Most of those films (I've only encountered maybe one or two that I wouldn't agree with so far)are either really good, really important to cinema or both, so I would highly recommend taking a look at those lists just for yourself. Anyway, I just got home from this week's film club and read about this community through the Rapid Readers group and felt compelled to both join and post right away.

I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with in terms of suggestions, and also look forward to the discussions. I went to film school, but am now working in a different field, so in order to kind of keep my hand in film a bit I've been reviewing every film I see since April 7, 2003. Counting tonight's 2 that makes 223 films/reviews - and I'm sure our discussions will be helpful to me personally.

Thanks for starting this one - I'll pass the word around.

Also
Title:Reality Bites

Date: early 90's
Synopsis: Story of 4 recent college graduates as the experience the "real world", including jobs, love, and other problems. The main plot is between two best friends that fall for each other

I've just joined and I think this is a great idea for a community!!

Heres my first suggestion..

MOVIE TITLE: Sunset Boulevard
CATEGORY: Classic; Film Noir
DATE OF MOVIE: 1950
SYNOPSIS: Joe Gillis, bankrupt screenwriter, hides from car repossessors in the garage of a deserted-looking mansion which proves to be the grotesque home of Norma Desmond, retired silent screen star. Joe takes refuge there, with a nominal job of rewriting Norma's hopeless 'comeback' screenplay. Weeks pass; feeling more and more like a kept man, Joe grasps at reality in the form of a clandestine friendship with script reader Betty Schaefer, but it's too late... (from imdb.com)
RECOMMENDED?: Not sure, I haven't watched it, YET. But it does make it on those "best movies" lists....

Hey, I'm Susan and I just joined.

MOVIE TITLE: Velvet Goldmine
CATEGORY: I'm not one-hundred percent sure, but I'm pretty sure it would fall under genre.
DATE OF MOVIE: 1998...no remakes
SYNOPSIS: A reporter in Britain investigates the glam rock period, particularly rock artist Brian Slade, who disappeared ten years before while staging his own murder in a concert. Slade (played by Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) is a young glam rockstar who encourages teenage boys and girls to explore their own sexuality. When the fans discover that this murder was fake, they are furious and he ends up a forgotten star. Arthur, the reporter investigating the fake murder ten years later, was a devoted fan to Brian Slade during that time period and strives to figure out what really did happen to Brian Slade after his "murder." It's mostly a type of biography of the legend David Bowie. It's one of Ewan McGreggor's lesser known roles as Slade's lover Kurt Wilde (another glam rock artist) in the flick. Goldmine is not really a musical, but there's quite a bit of music in it.
RECOMMENDED?: Definitely. It may seem a bit artsy, but that's what makes it a so amazing. The costumes and the music are fabulous as well.

Screencaps if you're interested .... I cannot emphasize how gorgeous the costuming is.
